Aside from her terrifying, perpetually teenage-looking boss Ophelia, Gigi seems to fit in rather well with her fellow human coworkers. Er, vampire. Passion, sure. Lust, sure. Strong feelings of impending nakedness, OK. But not love. Molly Harper continues to be my go-to author when I want a story with a solid plot, lots of snark, romance, and a bit of mystery. And this book had all of that in spades. Gigi turned out to be an extremely likeable and relatable character. I loved that she took her abundant computer skills along with her healthy self-image and rocked her IT job.

Gigi is no longer an innocent teen. But sexy and alluring, with a penchant for biting, could be just what Gigi wants Gigi accepts a job as one of four humans hired at the Vampire Council Headquarters for a summer programming position. This is totally against the wishes of her sister Iris and brother-in-law, Cal who would like her to stay clear of the council; but the pay and benefits are too good to pass out.
She thought she’d been going nuts, having seen a strange vampire a few times months ago, and he’d even had the nerve to run across the street and kiss her. She doesn’t know what to think when this same vampire attacks her in the parking lot at work. It’s a good thing Cal had taken her self-defense training seriously. I’d apparently missed a book, The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires which had Iris’ story and I think that somewhat affected how I felt about this one.
I still enjoyed it, but it just wasn’t the same by not knowing the history of Iris’ and Cal’s relationship and my not feeling a relationship with them. They play a large role in this book. This romance has humor, but not nearly as much as I’ve come to expect from this writer.

I had absolutely no clue who he was, but being the curious cat that I am, I egged the conversation on to see if I could conjure up a memory. Do rebound relationships work? The biggest risk is that the new relationship is simply being used as a way of avoiding emotions and feelings bound up in the previous one – that, by finding a new partner quickly, the person in question is trying to avoid the pain of breaking up and the sensation of uncertainty that can follow. The problem here is that these feelings often have a way of working themselves out anyway – and that can create instability in any new relationship. Another risk can come from the way in which rebound partners tend to be chosen.
While the popular perception of rebound relationships is that the person in question chooses a new partner at random, the actual pattern can be more problematic. Both outcomes can be fraught with their own difficulties. This is an unwelcome burden for the new partner to face, and usually an unpredictable way for these issues to find resolution. The truth is it can be really hard to predict what will work. A partnership that looks great on paper might not go the distance in real life – and vice versa.
How do I feel? Are you experiencing confusing feelings and emotions? Do you feel you may be acting out of hurt or anger? What do I want?

This is a simple form of distraction that numbs you from feeling the pain of losing a committed relationship, and it really makes a lot of sense — who wants to feel the full force of heartbreak?
